The Ford Windstar was minivan aimed at families. At launch it had a 155hp 3.8-liter V6 engine that drove the front wheels through a four-speed automatic gearbox. However, in 1995, a new 150hp 3.0-liter engine was introduced, and the 3.8 was increased to 200hp. The big drawback on this shape of Windstar was the absence of a driver’s side rear door, but this was remedied with the second-generation Windstar that appeared in 1998. It was bigger and more practical for families, and it also proved robust. It gained a great deal of luxury equipment, and lost the 3,.0-liter engine, leaving the 3.8 as the sole choice. The Windstar name was killed off in 2003, although the vehicle continued (albeit with a facelift) as the Freestar from then until 2007.
